Explore the Issues That Impact Our Integrated World

Our curriculum includes required courses that introduce students to:

  • The history of war and conquest, the achievements of diplomacy and cooperation, and the search for peace and justice.
  • The origins of the nation-state system, the conduct and practice of diplomacy, and the analysis of major contemporary issues.
  • How culture, history and markets influence politics in different nation-states, and why political systems vary from one nation-state to another.

After they complete the required courses, students can tailor the minor to their individual interests through electives that focus on regions such as Latin America, the Middle East, Africa, Asia, Europe and Russia.

Small classes allow students to work closely with each other and with our expert faculty members. Students can also enrich their education through our Pell Center for International Relations and Public Policy, where a variety of speakers and presentations explore the issues dominating world events.

Students who complete the minor are encouraged to consider our online master's degree in international relations. With an emphasis on global citizenship, this rigorous program centers on topics such as the ethical implications of war, peaceful resolution of world conflicts, natural disasters and their resulting humanitarian crises, and strategies to resolve disputes between groups and individuals.
